When I chose to study at the same university where my father graduated from, I knew that one day I would follow in his footsteps and develop my career in the legal profession. But it was not until I flew halfway around the world and eventually landed on the continent of the Great White North that I finally made my decision to become a lawyer and practice in Ontario.
Born and raised in China, I find myself enjoying the conflicts as well as the infusion of different cultures. The Orientals’ implicitness and prudence, and the westerners’ straightforwardness and aggressiveness, I like both. I think that is also true in terms of client service as a lawyer. Every day we interact with various clients, each facing one or multiple legal issues. It is crucial for us to customize our services to each client’s needs, using appropriate laws as a weapon to transform the conflicts into resolutions.
In addition to Ontario Bar, I also hold a Chinese LL.B, a U.S. LL.M and a Canadian MBA. I do believe, not as a “degree collector”, that my unique background and understanding of both legal and business industries in China and North America bridges cultural and legal issues and provides superior value to my clients.
I am enjoying myself working at Baker & Company where I could focus my areas of practice on corporate commercial, financing and real estate transactions, planning and zoning, contracts and general civil matters. I enjoy providing full services to young entrepreneurs, from incorporation, setting up corporate structures, and drafting shareholders’ agreements, to facilitating secured or unsecured financing, negotiation of agreements, and to conducting complex business transactions.
Clients need their lawyers to understand their businesses, and Baker & Company is such a place where all lawyers keep their knowledge updated every day. There is no end to learning.
